BIO

Born in Mannheim, Germany, Horst Hamann first visited New York in 1979. Ten years later Hamann moved to New York permanently to begin his twenty year study of Manhattan and its lofty views. "New York became my passion", Hamann recalls of his early experiences traversing the city on his many photographic assignments. Revered for his innovative vision he became the photographer of choice for a number of prestigous clients such as American Express, Kodak and Swatch to name a few. Hamann's work has been published and exhibited worldwide. He is the author of 18 photo books. His bestseller New York Vertical, became a "modern classic" (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) with more than 180.000 copies printed. He is recognized as one of the leading panorama photographers of his generation and his long term photographic study on New York is often compared to such as Berenice Abbot and Andreas Feininger. He has conducted workshops and lectures throughout the world including the International Center Of Photography. . His work appears in many public and private collection. In 1999 The Museum of the City of New York honored Hamann with a six-month solo exhibition.
